6-8 The FCC is proposing to make major changes to the General Mobile Radio Service (GMRS) and Family Radio Service (FRS) Rules.  A full 92-page FCC release of the proposal is available at this site.  A much shorter discussion of the issues is available from the Personal Radio Steering Group (PRSG), an organization that promotes GMRS and FRS use, at this site.  The proposal is designated Docket 10-119.

6-1 The DTRS 700 MHz sites in the metro area appear to be in a 'rebanding' process.  Most of the 700 frequencies will probably change.  This includes the Adams County simulcast sites, and the downtown Capitol and Auraria sites.

The Consolidated Communications Network of Colorado, Inc. (CCNC) is the user and managing organization of the Statewide Digital Trunked Radio System Network (DTRS).

These are the changes so far:
Site #Site Name New CC freq
        1-070 Auraria 770.40625
         1-071State Capitol

        770.18125

         1-072Kiowa (Elbert) 774.56875 (no change)
         3-022Adams Co. simulcast 772.99375

        3-051

        Hoyt (Adams) 774.79375 (no change)
        3-054 Gun Barrel (Boulder) 774.88125
3-055Ft Lupton (Larimer) 774.83125 (no change)
        3-056 Longmont (Boulder) 774.20625

5-26 Elbert County commissioners have reluctantly voted to close their independent communications center due to financial problems, and contract with Douglas County for dispatch services by September 1.  This comes after the Elbert County comcenter has operated for 10 years.  Talk groups and site usage on the DTRS may change to DougCo TG's.  More details at KUSA.com.

5-4 Logan County has switched to the Colorado Digital Trunking Radio System (DTRS).  Talk groups are not yet identified.  Fire alerting is still on VHF, but tones only; no voice.  Logan County is in Northeast Colorado, and the county seat is Sterling.

4-1 Parker Fire Department is now part of South Metro Fire Authority.
Station numbering for Parker is 41 to 47
A new listing of all South Metro stations is available here.

3-6 Vail Valley now has a locally-based medical helicopter, based in Gypsum. Details are on Channel 7's web page.  Also see the Eagle Valley Enterprise's article on the new service.

2-20  The Lakewood/West Metro/Wheat Ridge EDACS system may become a public safety only P25 digital system, with sites on Green Mountain and Mt Morrison. This change is projected for late spring/summer.  Other public services would stay on the current analog system, probably by splitting the frequencies into two separate radio systems.

2-12  Three Denver network affiliate TV stations will be sharing one helicopter, beginning April 1.  KUSA-9 and KMGH-7 have been sharing one chopper since January 2009, and now KCNC-4 will join that cooperative use.  All three stations will share the same video feed, and the chopper will have no station logos.

1-31 Boulder County may be planning to start migrating to 700/800 MHz later this year, using the Motorola APX-7500 mobile/APX-7000 portable (shown at right).  This would be a major departure from Boulder County's past history of heavy VHF conventional system use. It remains to be seen if they will link DTRS TG's to existing VHF systems as a transitional measure, and then possibly completely drop VHF.  Longmont has been testing on DTRS, and will probably be included in the move.

1-1 Mesa County (Grand Junction area) is beginning to make the switch from their long-time VHF channels to DTRS as of March 1.

Update 3-6:  DTRS usage now being heard on 8431-GJPD-1 and 8432-GJPD-2..
